Depressive disorder is a rising mental health concern in today’s world that is causing a lot of concern. Depression can be described as a state of mind whereby one becomes overwhelmed by sadness and lack of energy to do anything that they previously would do without hesitation. A person undergoing the depressive episodes is likely to separate him or herself from close people around them .Other symptoms of depression manifest themselves in change of normal behaviors and ways of doing things like change in sleep patterns, handling emotions among other alterations.
The purpose of our thesis is to create a guide for international students currently residing in Finland help in identifying depression and seeking help it. This guide will be in electronic form, which makes it easier to share it around with people and it can also be printed out when needed. Our main goal is to provide information to international students to have access to information about depression, to identify the signs and provide advice on where to seek help when needed.
Through our research we have noted that if more attention is given towards mental health and especially depression there will be a great improvement in this crisis. This is mainly because information shades light and when information is accessed easily and people know at what point there is need to find help, where and how to find help, there will be a reduction in the consequences of depression.
