I detta examensarbete undersöks sömnens betydelse för hälsan och samlar de nyaste sömnrekommendationerna för barn mellan 1–6 år. Projektet är beställt av Stiftelsen Sedmigradsky som erbjuder finlandssvensk dagvård i Helsingfors stad. Forskningsfrå-gorna är: 1. Vilka sömnrekommendationer förs fram i forskning kring barns sömn? 2. Hur påverkas hälsan av bra sömnhygien? Resultatet betraktas med en omvårdnadsvet-enskaplig teori om hälsa, eftersom en del av en god hälsa innebär en god sömn. Som metod används en systematisk litteraturundersökning. Sökning gjordes på databaserna ScienceDirect och Pubmed med sökord: children, preschool, sleep hygiene. Resultatet stöder tidigare kunskaper om att bra sömnhygien är avgörande för barns övergripande hälsa och välbefinnande. Sömnrekommendationerna är regelbunden sömnrutin, lägg-ning innan kl 21.00, mörkt i sovrummet, begränsning av tiden barn spenderar framför skärmen och ingen skärmtid en timme innan läggning, en balanserad kost med grönsa-ker och hälsosamma proteiner, inget koffein och självständighet vid insomning. Andra sömnrekommendationer hade inte tillräckligt med starkt stöd och ytterligare forskning behövs. This thesis is examining sleep’s effect on health and merges the newest sleep recommen-dations for children between the age of 1-6 years old. The project is ordered by Founda-tion Sedmigradsky, which offers Finnish-Swedish daycare services in Helsinki. The re-search questions are: 1. Which sleep recommendations can be found in the research re-garding children’s sleep? 2. How is health affected by good sleep hygiene? The result is considered from a nursing theory perspective, since good sleep contributes to good health.
The method used is a systematic literature review. The searches were conducted on the following databases (ScienceDirect & Pubmed) with the following keywords: children, preschool, sleep hygiene. The results support previous knowledge that good sleep hy-giene is crucial for children’s overall health and well-being. The sleep recommendations are a regular sleep routine, going to bed before 9 p.m., darkness in the bedroom, limiting the time children spend in front of the screen and no screen time one hour before going to bed, a balanced diet with vegetables and healthy proteins, no caffeine and independ-ence when falling asleep. Other sleep recommendations did not have strong enough sup-port and thus should be further researched.
