Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin Kainuun hyvinvointialueen ME-hankkeessa (Mukana Elämässä-hanke). Tarkoituksenamme on kuvata nuorilta saamiamme positiivisia selviytymistarinoita koronapandemian ajalta. The thesis was conducted in a project called Mukana Elämässä managed by Kainuu Wellbeing Services County. The purpose of this thesis was to reduce the number of suicide attempts and suicides in Kainuu Region. The aim was that mental health would be seen as an asset, children and young peoples’ mental health would be structured in everyday life and in accordance with their needs, and wide-ranging and equal services would be provided.
In this process, our aim was to provide public health nurses with information about young people's mental health coping methods in exceptional circumstances so that they could support the coping of young people. Our purpose was to describe the positive coping stories we heard from young people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The research method was qualitative, and the material was collected using a qualitative themed ques-tionnaire. Answering the survey was anonymous and voluntary. The respondents were young people, aged 18–22. The elements of positive mental health in young people's everyday lives during the Covid-19 pandemic and what coping methods they used were analyzed in the content analysis.
Coping methods included meaningful activities, social relationships and promoting one's own health and well-being. It was also clear that the elements of positive mental health promoted young people’s coping with everyday life during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This thesis yielded three further research topics. First, it would be useful to study how registered public health nurses broach young people's mental health and mental well-being, for example, in health check-ups. Secondly, a study could focus on how young people feel they are encountered when they visit public health nurses. And a third topic would be the way public health nurses have considered young people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
