Opinnäytetyö tehtiin Yhden Vanhemman Perheiden Liiton pyynnöstä; he halusivat tutkimustietoa kokemuksista työn ja hoivavastuun yhdistämisestä yhden vanhemman perheissä.
Opinnäytetyömme on laadullinen tutkimus.
This thesis was made by request at Yhden vanhemman perheiden liitto (Association of single parent families). Coping with daily routines requires arrangements without the other parent. Public services do not meet the need of services that families with atypical working hours have.
The objective of our study was to describe daily experiences in the family with a single parent who is in working life and has at least one child who is under school-age. The focus is on combining working life and liability for a child in a single parent family.
Our thesis was a qualitative study. The theoretical framework of our thesis consists of single parents who have paid jobs and have responsibility for a child or children under school-age. Our thesis describes the experiences that parents have in coping with a paid job and responsible care for the children. The data was collected through (in-dept) interviews in spring 2012 and analyzed with the data-driven content analysis. We interviewed two single parents. We contacted the parents through different communities and organizations.
The results of this thesis show that parents consider important flexible working hours and flexible daycare services in combining working life and liability for a child. Parents in single parent families hope for more support from society to sustain sufficient welfare. They were satisfied daycare services. Parents think that social relationships are a very important support in everyday life.
This thesis showed the needs for counseling of services in changed life situations. These services could make sure possibilities of network for single parents who have fewer possibilities of access to help.
