KAMU-tunti kokonaisuuden hyödyllisyyttä ja toimivuutta on aiheellista selvittää hankkeen jatkokehittämistä varten, jotta oppituntien sisällöt saataisiin vastaamaan entistä paremmin nuorten aitoa tarvetta.
ABSTRACT

The thesis is an analysis on the impact and functionality of the KAMU Kaveri mielessä pilot project based on the experiences of instructors with different backgrounds who have instructed KAMU lessons for comprehensive school-aged youth. The experiences of young people who participated in KAMU lessons have also been considered.
The need for work that strengthens mental health and coping of youth in everyday life is great in a world that is always changing and triggers a feeling of uncertainty about the future. The KAMU lessons are aimed at young people in the 7th-9th grades, and the idea of the lessons is to give adolescents tools to take care of their own coping and mental health, as well as to give an understanding of when a concern of a friend should be brought to the attention of an adult.
The pilot project is quite recent, and no in-depth survey has yet been made on the functionality of its implementation or the reception given by the adolescents who participated in the lessons. It is essential to find out about the usefulness and functionality of the KAMU lessons for the future development of the project, so that the contents of the lessons better meet the genuine needs of adolescents.
At the beginning of the thesis process, the idea was to interview youngsters who had participated in the KAMU lessons. Data on the youngster’s experiences turned out to be too scarce to be used comprehensively as the basis of the thesis. On the other hand, that information can be utilized when bringing up themes that shed light on what kind of experience the KAMU lesson set was for the adolescents. In addition to the original data collection method, interviews were conducted with instructors who had thought KAMU lessons. The idea was now to gather their experiences of what was functional in the KAMU lesson set and raised discussion among the youngsters who participated in the lessons and what kind of challenges were in countered in instructing the lessons.
In the thesis, the mental health of adolescents and the youth as a stage of development are discussed first through the database. Finally, the database and experiences of instructors and young people obtained through interviews are put into dialog with each other.
Keywords: youth, mental health, coping, emotional skills, motivation
