Tiivistelmä
Foreign direct investment is a fundamental business decision to acquire or have a stake in a targeted business sector with the sole aim of business growth and global recognition. This thesis examines MTN South Africa investment in MTN Nigeria with a view of making MTN Nigeria the market leader in the telecommunication industry from the perspective of human resources. The objective was to ascertain which would be best theoretical and practical organisational structure that could be used by MTN as a conglomerate to bridge the cultural difference between South Africa and Nigeria in relation to human resources.
The research was done as qualitative empirical non-numerical data research. The primary data was a set of interviews that were conducted with the human resources manager of MTN Nigeria to provide valid information on existing organisation structure of MTN. Secondly, secondary data from articles, journals and literature that describe the significance of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in emerging economies were utilized.
The thesis established that organisation structure, cultural influence and human resources are an integral part of business growth and development in internationalization operations of MTN in Nigeria.
