Injection moulding is one of the most common methods of making plastic goods for a wide range of applications, from everyday items to high-tech equipment. This thesis studies the possibilities of combining injection moulding simulation software into the mould design process to evaluate the product, predict potential defects, and optimize the design to attain the optimum product outcome. The Autodesk Mold Flow Insight analysis software will be used for the selected product “bottle opener”. This commercial mould filling software simulates the cavity filling pattern as well as temperature and pressure distributions in the mould cavity. Three different runners’ system are manually created in Mold Flow software and simulated for the optimum results. During the plastics flow inside the mould cavity, various flow parameters such as fill time, temperature, pressure, and wrap at various positions in the cavity are studied in the moulding. At the end of the study rapid prototype of core and cavity is manufacture by using 3D printer.
Overall, this Moldflow can perform a detailed analysis of the flow process of pure nylon. Thus, determining the filling of a mould cavity is essential and it becomes beneficial before manufacturing of a nylon plastic part.
