This Bachelor thesis was prepared for the fulfillment of the educational standard of Arcada University of Applied Sciences. The aim of this paper was to achieve a main goal which is to discover the importance of online communication on accessibility for people with disabilities and what kind of information on accessibility can be seen as important.
The empirical study material was collected with the help of applying qualitative research method. The research was conducted by studying an official webpages of ten chosen tourist attractions in Helsinki as well as being introduced closely to theoretical framework, including all the necessary topics that could help in providing constructive conclusion and answers to research questions of the thesis. The research questions explore the current situation and future possibility for development in the area of online communication on accessibility for people with disabilities.
This thesis presents the significance of accessibility tourism and its development in a whole life approach. Every disabled tourist has a right to experience the tourism products and services anytime of their life’s without any barriers. This study benefits all organizations based in tourism industry as well as students of tourism. Additionally, this thesis focuses the value of accessible education or training at destinations or tourism attractions. In addition, this research work gives an innovative idea and solution on how to improve online communication on accessibility tourism information in Helsinki.
