Tiivistelmä
The purpose of the thesis was to create a proof-of-concept application that can be used as an example of how Virtual Reality (VR) technology can be utilized for training. The importance of this project is emphasized by the social distancing and travel bans caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic. Training the use of machinery must be done regularly and the training can be held using VR even if it would not be possible to physically go to the training place.
The scope of this project included an example solution to teach a short introduction to the operation of one machine. The application contains a training with couple of steps for the user to go through and a summary of the learned skills in the end. The proof-of-concept application works as a base project for this type of training and the simulation can easily be switched to be about a different vehicle that can be used as an example that matches the possible client’s context better.
The proof-of-concept application was successfully developed, and it can be used as a base for virtual reality training projects. However, the importance of using a suitable 3D model was noticed during the creation of the application as well as the usefulness of a proper design.
