This bachelor’s thesis describes the family service that is offered in the religious organization The League of Peace Societies of the Laestadianism, abbreviated LFF. The purpose of this thesis is to map out the available services existing within the framework of the family service that is produced by LFF, to look into how LFF’s family service is different from other parties’ family service as well as how the services are being perceived trough a client perspective.
The key issues are: Which available family services are produced by LFF? Which services are available and who are the staff providing the services constituted of? Are there any differences compared to traditional family service e.g. provided by the municipality? Are there valid reasons for the organisation to produce family service separately or does it overlap other parties’ services in an unproductive manner?
The theoretical frame of the thesis describes Laestadianism as a religious group and as an organization as well as also providing a general description of family service. I also describe LFF’s family service by combining available information on the subject as well as information I received by interviewing members of the staff.
My survey reveals that LFF’s family service really is needed. The survey shines a light on why the clients’ decide to turn to LFF, the reasons being the following: because the clients were part of the laestadianism themselves, other forms of care offered by other parties’ didn’t feel enough, they wanted a Christian perspective on their problems, they couldn’t find what they were looking for elsewhere as well as reasons regarding faith and values. The clients’ relationship to other parties’ is also looked into. All my respondents had first turned to other parties’ before coming to LFF, it seems like LFF constitutes as a complement to other socialand healthcare service. The study also pin points unique features in the family service that LFF is producing, the respondents mentioned the Christian perspective, the time available for every client, the continuity and the prolonged support. The respondents also gave feedback and suggestions for developing the family service within LFF.
