Tiivistelmä
The main topic of this bachelor’s thesis is to develop an adaptable budgeting tool for the commissioning company. The commissioning company is Procurum Oy, a Finnish project management consultancy firm set up in 2016 and specialized in project management solu-tions. The outcome of this thesis is an adaptable budgeting tool in Microsoft Excel format to cater to private construction projects’ requirements.
As a product-oriented thesis, this work consists of a theoretical framework and the empirical selection implemented in the research. In order to achieve its objective, this thesis consists of six sequential project tasks. The first task delimits the theoretical framework applicable to project management. Project task two encompasses three subtasks aimed at collecting nec-essary costing and statistical data to outline the main focus areas to be addressed in the design of the budgeting tool. Task three details the designing of the budgeting tool. Task four includes testing of the designed tool and finalization of potential snags. Task five comprises of end-user training and support to the commissioning company business managers with needed training material for the budgeting tool users. The sixth and final project task consists of the final analyses of the project outcomes.
The selected software utilized in the budgeting tool creation is Microsoft Excel. The final product includes a construction budget summary, a detailed construction budget by con-struction components and classified as per Finnish Building 2000 Project Classification (Ta-lo-2000) standards for construction projects, a cost control tracker and a cash flow forecast tool. In addition to that, the designed budgeting tool contains instructions for users.
The project was carried out between summer and autumn 2018. The thesis concludes with the finalized version of the designed budgeting tool to cater to the commissioning company’s needs in its private construction management projects.
