This publication presents the proceedings from the 4th Smart Cities in Smart Regions conference that was organised in Lahti, Finland on 9–10 October 2024. The conference was a joint effort between LAB University of Applied Sciences and the City of Lahti and it was organised together with several other collaborators.
The Smart Cities in Smart Regions conference has a tradition of being interdisciplinary and combining multifaceted perspectives to the smart city concept, as well as having a practical orientation in bringing applied research to the forefront. Also this time a key aspect of the conference was to promote collaboration and exchange between researchers, industry, and local and regional development actors. The speakers shared different perspectives and solutions to help move cities and regions toward being smarter, that is, more sustainable, inclusive, and interconnected.
The conference’s parallel sessions included presentations of scientific and applied research as well as practical case examples that gave the participants an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the newest research as well as innovative real-world applications. The authors of the research abstracts were given the opportunity to contribute to this peer-reviewed proceedings. This conference proceedings offers insights into the conference themes through an interesting set of academic and applied research papers.
