SYNOPSIS: Norway. February 2022. RAGNAR (20) is serving his mandatory army service in the Norwegian army, on the Norwegian-Russian border. His main task is to be in the tower, watching the border. Ragnar is a good soldier and because there is a lack of one officer on the border station, everyone, including Ragnar himself, thinks that he will be given more responsibility.
However, sergeant BRINKMANN (19), who has just graduated from officer school, is announced as a new sergeant. Brinkmann introduces himself by listing up a bunch of new rules and telling the soldiers to pull themselves together. Ragnar and Brinkmann get into a conflict on the first morning meeting.
When Ragnar's girlfriend breaks up with him, Ragnar can ́t stand Brinkmann and his rules any more. He starts to play the block flute and write poems in the tower, while on duty. When the station´s lieutenant has to go away for a couple of days and Brinkmann is left in charge, Brinkmann starts a harsh regime with even stricter rules. Ragnar´s answer is to organise an «erotic evening» in the camp and the conflict between the two of them increases.
Ragnar is seen by Brinkmann playing block flute in the tower and is sent to the army cell for two days. He is devastated and decides to loosen the string of Brinkmann´s dog, Frøya, without Brinkmann knowing it. Frøya runs away.
When Ragnar is back again at the camp the soldiers are called out for what they think is an actual border crossing from Russia to Norway. Ragnar and Brinkmann end up together on the mountain. Brinkmann tells Ragnar that he misses Frøya a lot and that Frøya is his only friend. This makes Ragnar regret what he has done. Ragnar sees Frøya in Russia from the tower, and crosses the border to Russia to get her back.
