Tiivistelmä
The purpose of the thesis was to create a guidebook for organizing ice hockey goalie camps for the Junnu Hokki organization. The main objective of the project was to plan and create easy-to-follow guidelines for planning an ice hockey goalie camp, then further implement it and organize an ice hockey goalie camp for Junnu Hokki under-18 and under-20 goaltenders to test the guidebook.
The number of guides addressing organizing camps, especially sport, and more specifically, ice hockey camps, is limited. The starting point of this thesis process was to gather pre-existing knowledge, authors’ experience, and literature on ice hockey, goaltending, event organization, and management to deliver a final product, as it is a product-based thesis. The thesis process was guided by the service design toolkit which describes steps of the devel-opment work.
The four-day camp to practically test the preliminary guidebook content and structure took place in the middle of an ice hockey season with the participation of seven ice hockey goal-ies from junior categories and two Junnu Hokki coaches, including one ice hockey goaltend-ing coach. The test of ice hockey goalie camp was followed by a set of semi-structured in-terviews with seven out of nine participants to gather feedback.
Thematic coding analysis was used as a qualitative research method to analyze feedback and further use the results for guidebook modification and improvement. The results showed key topics to be improved in the guidebook while simultaneously answering the research questions guiding the entire process. The guidebook provides an effective tool and clear guidelines for the coaches and organisers of Kajaanin Junnu Hokki for future uses within the ice hockey club.
