The objective of this thesis was to study the role of SAP certifications in today's market for ERP consultants. The thesis examined the theoretical basis of ERP using SAP as a leading company in the industry. The first objective was to introduce the reader to enterprise resource planning, examine the implementation process, define the role of an ERP consultant, and highlight the current demand for this profession. The thesis also aimed to verify whether holding an up-to-date SAP certification establishes the holder as a professional in the market. However, the main aim of this thesis was to examine whether such certification improves the chances of graduates from UAS in and around the Finland region to be hired for consultant positions.
To answer the raised questions, two phases were conducted. Firstly, relevant academic literature was gathered from scientific databases. Secondly, five interviews were conducted with currently working consultants with a range of experience in the field, from 1-20 years.
SAP is a global software company specializing in and leading in ERP solutions that streamline business operations and enable real-time collaboration across departments. The company ensures the qualification of its users by establishing certifications related to all the modules it offers, which professionals pass in theory to demonstrate their knowledge and enhance their employability.
The main outcome of this thesis was that SAP certifications improve skills and enhance career.
