Many people suffer a stroke throughout their lives, and the various impacts of a stroke can be very challenging for both the patient and the healthcare professionals. The use of music as a complementary element in rehabilitation has received increasing attention due to its potential to further improve traditional rehabilitation methods.
The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis is to contribute to increasing knowledge of the potentials and the impacts of music on stroke patients. Literature review was used as a basis for the work and for our product. The informational material was designed for the staff at the neurological department at ÅUCS to increase knowledge, inspire and give a deeper understanding about the multifaceted impact of music on the stroke patient. The material aims to motivate them to utilize music for the patient in the daily care.
We have delved into the subject based on our research questions regarding the possibilities and impact of music on stroke patients, and how to realize the use of music in the rehabilitation of stroke patients. The research results showed that music has a positive impact on the stroke patients on multiple levels, both physically, mentally, and socially. Music can be used as a rehabilitative element with family members, staff, therapists or independently. Additionally, music can be utilized in various ways, such as listening, playing, or as support for movement. We hope that our thesis contributes to the implementation of music as an important rehabilitative factor in the stroke patient’s recovery journey.
