Tiivistelmä
This thesis delves into waste management in the MICE industry and how that is affected by the client’s choices. To help, commissioning company 3K MANAGEMENT ltd. has assisted with practical insights. The research describes the current issues in Riga, Latvia.
By exploring how far sustainable event management has come, the author defines issues in the food, energy, and travel aspect. When creating a MICE event, the client’s, attendees, and event organiser’s habits affects the end result, hence a need for a deeper social explanation.
With 4 interviews, the author proves that being environmentally responsible when creating events lies in accessibility of providing waste reduction tools, societal values within events as rituals, and ultimately a company’s responsibility level.
This work acts as an analysis that asks for a need of improvements in Latvian local waste management facilities, governing policies to change societal habits, and event agencies’ work that includes sustainable planning and execution.
