Tiivistelmä
The Covid-19 pandemic transformed traditional workplace dynamics profoundly, causing a substantial shift towards remote work arrangements. This evolution underscores the increasing importance of understanding and navigating the challenges inherent in virtual teamwork.
This Thesis focuses on a case company with offices in Finland and the US. Specifically, it looks into the virtual Customer Service team composed of members from both offices. The objective is to analyze the team's effectiveness and propose strategies for enhancing collaboration. To achieve this, a literature review identifies the common enabling factors and challenges for virtual teams.
Primary data collection involves surveys distributed to six of the team members and supervisors, supplemented by interviews with selected team members. The findings illuminate both the strengths and weaknesses of the virtual team's functioning.
Recommendations for improvement are formulated based on the findings of the literature review as well as the surveys and interviews. Suggested improvement actions for the team include for example establishing more structured communication processes, implementing periodic surveys by the team leader to monitor dynamics and performance, and improving onboarding. The improvements should be implemented as soon as possible, to improve team efficiency.
