The aim of the thesis was to expand the knowledge of early childhood education (ECEC) staff and legal guardians of young children about services for families with children in the Kuopio area. The output of the thesis was a poster that serves as a service map for families with children. The poster contains a collection of services that early childhood education staff can guide families with through services, or that guardians themselves can apply for with a low threshold.
The theoretical framework was based on early childhood education and its objectives, service guidance, prevention and working with guardians. The thesis also included an examination of the new title of social care worker in early childhood education and care. Content for the poster was collected through unstructured interviews, observation and use of internet search engines.
The poster was presented to the staff of our partner Norlandia Louna. The conclusion about the benefits of the poster for early childhood education staff was clear. The majority of early childhood education staff do not have information about services to which families could be guided to. The exception to this is the social worker in early childhood education and care who, through training, has become skilled in service guidance.
