This study explores the advantages, disadvantages, and success factors of international franchising for both franchisees and franchisors. While the focus is not specifically on Finland and Germany, these countries are mentioned due to the author's background and personal interest, which influenced the choice of the thesis topic. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study conducted expert interviews for insights from industry experts, complemented by an extensive literature review.
The primary aim was to gather detailed insights into the benefits and drawbacks, as well as factors influencing the success and challenges of franchisors and franchisees in international markets. Interviews were conducted through in-person meetings or video conferencing, with audio recordings for transcription and analysis, subject to permission. The literature review examined existing research to define the structure, advantages, disadvantages, and success factors. This dual-method approach served as the research foundation, offering a comprehensive overview of international franchising dynamics. The findings contribute by providing readers with a thorough awareness of the benefits, opportunities, potential risks, and challenges involved with foreign franchising with factors for the success for both franchisees and franchisors.
