Sustainable Solid Waste Management is a critical problem not only for developing countries but for the developed countries as well. Considerable amount of waste generated in Ghana due to increased urbanization. There is indiscriminate littering oft!cities of Ghana and its environs with plastic waste.
This research discusses sustainable ways of managing solid waste in Ghana in order to minimize their adverse environmental impacts. The need for such a study is justified and is desirable to change the unsustainable pattern of consumption, production and disposal associated with these materials.
This thesis is written for the purpose of providing information for Export and Import Innovation (EXIMIN) project through which companies in Europe specifically Finland can establish business opportunities with companies in Africa.
The main aim of the thesis is to provide business opportunities for both Waste Management Organizations in Finland and the people of Ghana and to reduce waste the lowest tones if not total eradication from the environment of Ghana. Thus, creating employment opportunities available in the country regarding; the collection, transportation, sorting, processing and management of waste substances in the country. It is to bring attention of the investors to take opportunity of the situation to help create employment avenues and to build healthy environment.
Finland as a country is among the leading developed countries with high expertise in management of waste, therefore, it is our ultimate aim that, after this research, Ghana would become an environmental friendly as Finland through their cooperation and effort of establishing waste management companies in Ghana.
