Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the treatment of children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) from a nursing perspective. The aim of the study was to enhance understanding of the role of nursing in the care of children and adolescents with ADHD and to highlight existing recommendations for effective patient care. The research question focused on the specific treating of individuals with ADHD, the interventions in nursing practice and their impact on patients results.
The study was based on a literature review of the relevant literature and analysis of existing nursing practices in the treatment of ADHD. The key theory used includes “Self-Care Deficit Theory” by Dorothea Orem. The study results highlight the importance of a multifaceted approach in the treatment of children and adolescents with ADHD, including behavioral interventions and patient education. Nurses play a vital role in coordinating care, supporting and monitoring treatment effectiveness. However, the study also identified some limitations, such as the small number of nursing-specific studies in this area and the need for further research into optimal nursing interventions. The age group being investigated in this thesis are children and adolescents from the age of 3 to the age of 19.
Conclusively, this thesis contributes to the knowledge base regarding the treatment of children and adolescents with ADHD from a nursing perspective. It highlights the importance of a collaborative approach between healthcare professionals and the importance of evidence-based nursing interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
