Tiivistelmä
Cancer Survivorship on lisääntyvän tutkimuksen kohteena kansainvälisesti. Aihe on tärkeä, koska yhä useampi sairastuu syöpään ja tehokkaiden hoitojen sekä varhaisen toteamisen ansiosta syöpäselviytyjien määrä on kasvanut tasaisesti vuosi vuodelta. Cancer Survivorship on käsitteenä tuttu englanninkielisenä versiona ja käsitteen määritelmille on yhtenevää ajatus pitkäkestoisesta kokemuksesta monine haasteineen. Suomessa käsitettä on käytetty ja käännetty monin tavoin ja siksi käsite vaatii tarkastelua ja asiantuntijoiden konsensusta suomenkielisestä termistä.
Tämän ylemmän AMK:n opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on määritellä Cancer Survivorship -käsite. Tavoitteena on selvittää, mitä englanninkielinen käsite Cancer Survivorship tarkoittaa, mikä suomenkielinen termi kuvaa parhaiten englanninkielistä Cancer Survivorship käsitettä sekä saavuttaa asiantuntijoiden konsensus suomenkielisestä termistä.
Cancer Survivorship is the subject of increasing research internationally. It is an important topic because increasing number of people are getting cancer and, thanks to effective treatments and early detection, the number of cancer survivors has been steadily increasing year on year. Cancer survivorship is a familiar concept in the English version and the definitions of the term are consistent with the idea of a long-term experience with many challenges. In Finland, the concept has been used and translated in many ways and therefore requires review and consensus among experts on the Finnish term.
The purpose of this master's thesis was to define the concept of Cancer Survivorship. The aim was to find out what the English term Cancer Survivorship means, which Finnish term best describes the English term Cancer Survivorship and to reach a consensus among experts on the Finnish term. The concept analysis was conducted using the Walker and Avant concept analysis method, the results of which served as the basis for the questions and statements of the Delphi expert panel.
Cancer Survivorship attributes were diversity, uncertainty, need for support, life-changing experience, uniqueness, transitions, challenges and opportunities and long-term nature. A consequence of the concept was finding a balance with the physical, psychological, social, and financial challenges that affect overall quality of life and well-being.
Experts considered life-changing experience, uniqueness, and diversity to be the most important of attributes and experience best described the concept. The consensus among experts on the Finnish term was “selviytyvyys”. The definition was: "Cancer Survivorship is a unique experience that essentially involves the ability to learn to live with the short- and long-term challenges of cancer and its treatment that affect the overall quality of life and well-being, from diagnosis to the end of life".
