This research investigates the profound impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality sector in Nigeria, a critical socioeconomic pillar in the nation's economy. Through a qualitative exploration, the study identifies the challenges faced by individuals and organizations within the hospitality industry, shedding light on the strategies employed to navigate these unprecedented challenges. The investigation encompasses various segments of the hospitality sector, including accommodation, food and beverages, travel, and entertainment.
The research employs a comprehensive methodology, utilizing structured, semi-structured, and unstructured interviews with top management personnel from diverse hospitality establishments. With a focus on ethical considerations, the study unfolds the aftermath and resilience of the hospitality industry post-COVID-19, offering valuable insights derived from the experiences of 20 respondents across different sectors.
Key findings emphasize the widespread impact of the pandemic on employment, financial stability, and organizational activities. Layoffs, business losses, and shifts in consumer behavior are recurrent themes. The study underscores the need for tailored strategies to enhance the industry's adaptability and resilience. Recommendations include support programs for employee well-being, financial recovery planning, and innovative promotional strategies.
In conclusion, this research bridges the existing gap in empirical studies on the Nigerian hospitality sector post-COVID-19, providing a foundation for future recovery efforts. The study emphasizes the importance of prioritizing employee well-being and customer safety for building a flexible and resilient industry in the face of ongoing uncertainties.
