Tiivistelmä
Accessibility is rapidly developing in multiple business sectors and on multiple levels. Laws, both internationally and in Finland, have been implemented to ensure equal experiences for people no matter their physical, economic, or mental status. These laws and developments have affected the business event industry, especially the management of these events.
This thesis will explore the quality of accessibility in Finnish business event management as it is now. The goal is to discover the current state by exploring it from multiple levels of accessibility and seeing how different accessibility tools have been implemented in the Finnish business event management field. These tools will be researched thoroughly.
The theory of the thesis focuses on two main topics, accessibility concepts and business event management concepts. The main topics of accessibility are understanding different accessibility needs and tools for them, the state of accessibility in Finland, and laws regarding the subject in Finland. The business event management concept will be explained by defining its meaning, exploring Finland’s event management prospects and laws, and examples of accessibility in current Finnish business event management.
The thesis includes three semi-structured interviews, from professionals from the business event management field. The interviews explore the opinions and experiences of these professionals on accessibility in their field and respective job tasks. It will also find out their opinion of business event accessibility in Finland compared to other countries.
The conclusion will wrap up all these topics researched in the thesis and explain the state of accessibility in Finnish business event management in a concise way using the tools and concepts learned, and the results received from the industry professional interviews. The author will implement their understanding of the research and conclude the objective of the thesis.
