The purpose of the thesis was to organize a theme day at the health centre Länsi. The goal of the theme day was to introduce OLKA activities in primary healthcare. In addition, the goal was to develop a feedback survey, which could be used to gather feedback from the event's visitors as comprehensively as possible, and which OLKA activities could use in the future in events and meetings related to volunteering.
The theoretical basis of the thesis was focused on OLKA and volunteer activities, peer support and collective activities in the social and health sector and studied their significance as part of healthcare activities. Several studies showed that the role of volunteering and peer support as part of healthcare is significant. Health care resources alone are not enough to take care of the overall well-being of the patient, so in the future the co-operation between the third sector and health care will be emphasized. The studies showcased the lack of awareness of volunteering among primary care professionals. For this reason, it is important to start operations at the level of primary health care, so that the help made possible by peer support can also be offered to patients visiting at health centres and their relatives.
Our thesis was an operational project that was carried out in co-operation with the OLKA activities and the Satakunnan yhteisökeskus, which commissioned the work. The project work group consisted of experts from different parties, which made it possible to utilize versatile know-how throughout the project. As a result of the thesis, a theme day was organized, and a feedback survey was developed for the event's visitors, the associations and operators that participated in the event. The feedback was comprehensively collected and based on the results, the event was very successful, and the visitors felt that they had gained new information about an important topic. Most of the visitors found the event useful, and the participating associations were impressed by the number of meetings and the networking opportunity offered by the event.
