Toimeksiantajana toimi Compass Group Finland Oy:n, Oulun yksikkö (OUKA).
The purpose of the thesis was to survey the coping skills of employees of the Compass Group catering and cleaning company, as well as the impact of a labor shortage on them. The survey helped to form an under-standing of the current situation of the personnel. The aim of the thesis was to provide the company with information about the employees' well-being at work during personnel shortages, as well as the type of support the employees expect from the company's supervisors. The goal was also to highlight areas of the company's operations that require modernization and to search for new solutions and ideas.
The client was Compass Group Finland Oy, Oulu unit (OUKA). The framework of reference for the thesis consists of the Finnish labor market, the labor shortage in Finland and coping at work. Thematic interview was used as the research method of this qualitative thesis. The employees of the company who suffered the most from the personnel shortage took part in the interview. The interviews were conducted in March and April 2023. The results of the interviews were processed using content analysis.
The results indicated that the company's employees were experiencing a decrease in general well-being at work. This can be seen through an increase in stress, fatigue and workload, as well as a decrease in motiva-tion. The use of temporary labor was also perceived as problematic due to the turnover of temporary work-ers. Permanent employees must constantly train them while carrying out their own work. In addition, the temporary workers’ lack of professional skills and motivation to work well, language barriers and cultural differences were perceived to be causing the work overload. The company's employees expect their em-ployer to source competent deputies with whom it would be easy to work. Employees also expect the man-agement team to understand and listen to them.
The company can use the obtained results to develop the employees' well-being at work and to support them in their work.
