Tiivistelmä
This thesis was a part of a project called Forest Refine carried out by various institutions from Sweden and Finland. The aim of the project is to promote efficient and sustainable use of forest biomass. On the other hand, this thesis has analyzed the status of biorefineries in Finland.
It was a literature-based thesis where theory section is entirely based on literatures and journals. In order to extract latest information about Finnish industries, various contacts were made with commercial industries and R&D institutions.
During the research, the writer has explored as many as possible biofuel related industries in Finland and evaluated that just over a million tons/year of liquid biofuel will be produced from current and under construction biorefineries within 5 years. Deeper research was needed in order to get accurate and latest information about feedstock and process technologies.
