This thesis was commissioned by Company X (pseudonym), a Finnish organization classified in the group of small and medium sized businesses, operating in the field of Information and communications by the standard industrial classification (TOL 2018). The purpose of the thesis is to study the obstacles and impediments to successful strategy execution and organizational collaboration in the organization.
The aim of the thesis was to develop a strategic management system by which the company could improve on collaborative strategy execution to gain competitive advantage and attain a pursued-after position. The theoretical framework of this thesis consists of strategic management, strategy execution and management systems.
The research strategy used in this thesis was case study. The research used a deductive approach and qualitative research methods. The data was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews to the organization members, and the data was analyzed thematically using a deductive approach.
The findings of the interviews were used as inputs for workshops, which defined the forms of representation, and methods and actions for implementing the management system. The development method suggested by this thesis to implement the management system is a PCDA-model, that strives for continuous improvement.
As a result, this thesis provided applicable components of the management system, an analysis to the current obstacles and impediments and specific causes to them and solutions on how to address them in the development of a strategic management system as the outcome.
