This thesis aims to understand a set of performance indicators for the productive operations of a
manufacturing company and to identify the methodologies and tools that point out the true value to be
strategically implemented, aiming at reducing waste and increasing efficiency, as well as the presentation of
the possible advantages of its use. The thesis was commissioned by Iisalmen Teollisuuskylä Oy.
The working thesis was done with the purpose of the investigation to be able to understand how the use of
correct performance meters and technology can contribute to the good performance of the manufacturing
industries. During the research, some common performance meters according to the type of companies visited
were listed and how those meters can affect a company’s performance, what is necessary for companies to
choose the correct meters and the paths to follow for the implementation of technology roadmapping as well
the costs involved.
With the result of this investigation, it can be seen how important performance indicators are within the
industrial environment, and that they must be selected according to the reality of the company, the production
process and the operators, considering and respecting the current level of progress of everyone and pursuing
the objectives to be achieved.
