Tiivistelmä
The pandemic of COVID-19 has had a significant impact on numerous industries, including the hospitality industry. This thesis investigates the present effects of COVID-19 on fine dining restaurants in Helsinki by combining a comprehensive literature review with semi-structured interviews.
The literature review investigates the current understanding of the pandemic's effects, including health, economy, and societal factors. It reveals COVID-19's long-lasting effects, which could potentially affect the fine dining restaurant industry.
In addition, semi-structured interviews with industry professionals in Helsinki are included in the research. These interviews shed light on the perspectives and experiences of individuals directly involved in the formal dining restaurant industry. The interviewees discuss the impact of COVID-19 on their businesses, focusing on whether or not they have observed significant effects.
The findings indicate a significant discrepancy between the literature review and the interview findings. While the literature emphasizes the long-lasting effects of COVID-19, qualitative research indicates that the current state of Helsinki's fine dining restaurants is relatively unaffected. According to industry experts, the challenges faced by these establishments are predominantly attributable to external factors and not the pandemic itself.
The study recognizes certain limitations, including the small sample size of interviewees and the geographical limitation to Helsinki. These variables may limit the applicability of the findings to other regions and businesses within the industry. In addition, the pandemic's dynamic nature necessitates constant vigilance, as future developments and uncertainties may influence the industry in unanticipated ways.
This study contributes to the existing corpus of knowledge by revealing the current effects of COVID-19 on Helsinki's fine dining restaurants. It emphasizes the significance of considering a variety of perspectives and external factors when evaluating the pandemic's impact on the industry.
