The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate which factors were of importance when individuals have recovered from substance addiction. A particular interest is placed at the turning point between the active substance addiction and the newfound sobriety, the help and support that the individuals received and the methods, skills and support efforts that the individuals use to support their continuous sobriety.
Based on the purpose and research questions of this thesis, the writer has conducted a semi structured interview with four respondents selected based on a convenience sampling. The interviews are analyzed through an overall analysis and the results are presented in three categories formed by the research questions.
The results showed that all respondents identified a clear turning point from substance addiction to recovering individuals. The respondents have then received support and help at treatment centers and from the twelve-step program. The respondents also have participated in different therapy methods where the aim has been to support their sobriety and help them in their recovery process by providing them with tools and skills.
