Tiivistelmä
Tässä opinnäytetyössä on tarkoitus laatia kehittämissuunnitelma Restoration Church -kirkossa järjestettävälle Vintage Christmas Open House -tapahtumalle. Suunnitelman tavoite on lisätä tapahtuman kiinnostavuutta ja kävijöitä. Tapahtuma on järjestetty vuosittain Yhdysvalloissa Missourin osavaltiossa Saint Josephin kaupungissa. Toimeksiantajana toimii Tim Doyle, Restoration Church -kirkon pääpastori.
The purpose of this thesis was to create a development plan for the Vintage Christmas Open House, an event held at the Restoration Church. The goal of the plan is to increase the appeal and number of visitors to the event. The event has occurred annually since 2014 in Saint Joseph, Missouri, United States. The development plan was conducted on behalf of Tim Doyle, the head pastor of the Restoration Church.
The thesis is practice based and it utilized the theoretical framework for theses with a practical outcome. To conduct the development work, the author traveled to the United States to plan the event in person. Information was gathered from local sources and the author also attended local events. The theoretical part of the thesis examines event planning as a concept alongside event marketing. The development plan for the event is based on Vallon and Häyrynen's (2016) Model for a Successful Event® (Onnistuneen tapahtuman malli®). It also utilizes the information gathered from the theoretical part alongside sources in the United States, including information verbally provided by the client.
The final output is a simple model that depicts the event using the six perspectives of the Model for a Successful Event®. Although the final product is narrower than intended, it proved a good feature as the model is easy to distribute and interpret. Due to the timing of this thesis, the event did not occur during the research phase. Thus, the goal of the plan was to develop future events. The client was satisfied with the results and the plan will be used in planning future events.
