This diary-based thesis was used to describe, observe, and perform analysis on the daily job responsibilities of an SAP Consultant working for a large multinational information and communications technology equipment and services corporation during the observation period of 3.2.2023 – 3.4.2023.
In the introduction section the background for the company, diary thesis and the author introduc-es their job as being an SAP Consultant with domain-expertise areas of SaaS-based solutions from SAP’s portfolio in the field of analytics, reporting, data warehousing and financial planning and key professional concepts were explained.
Description of the initial situation describes the job responsibilities of author and skills the author considers as requirement to succeed as consultant, professional expertise, ability to absorb new information quickly and communication skills and sets the skills the author considers most important for the continued success within their role and introduces various stakeholder groups author typically interacts with during the course of daily job tasks.
Within the diary section, daily job tasks were reported, and analysis was done on weekly level on for each week of the observation period.
Discussion section is self-reflective section the professional development during the 8-week observation period against the described initial situation and pondering about what practices to maintain to the future, and future development goals based on the situation at the end of observation period.
The diary thesis can be useful for anyone considering path into IT consulting or career within SAP ecosystem and contains authors own reflections on the job and challenges for a newer SAP Consultant focused on SaaS-solutions and discusses the development path and various best practices to utilize in various situations.
