The purpose of this thesis was to find out how parents have been treated by the healthcare when their child was diagnosed with hip luxation and how they experienced the quality of the healthcare. To fulfill this aim, interviews was carried out. They who were interviewed also came with advice for new parents who have children with hip luxation.
The author has done a qualitative interview study about when a newborn baby is diagnosed with hip luxation. Three parents were interviewed, of which all had their own unique and personal stories. The interviews gave an insight of the parent´s experiences and the author believe that the most relevant information is gained by using interviews as the data collection method.
The results of the study reflect on a theoretical out-set. Eriksson (1994) theory of suffering was used as a theoretical starting point. Through this research a broader knowledge about how to meet parents who have a newborn baby with a diagnosis is gained. Knowledge, that healthcare professionals need to take into consideration.
The result of the study shows that the parents have been well treated by the healthcare but that they wished that they would have received more information, to calm the anxiety that the diagnosis caused them. The study also showed that all parents take the diagnosis in different ways, depending on previous experiences and knowledge.
