Tiivistelmä
Purpose - The goal of the research was to find out what preconditions for financial business growth sports organizations maintain in Finnish local city. The possibility was also brought out that the business growth might not be the target in sports organizations.
Design/method/approach - Quantitative method was utilized to acquire broad insight of situation. The local city upheld a register of active sports organizations that enabled to delineate the research for required respondents. The survey was produced with Webropol -software questionnaire and sent through e-mail to sports organizations leading characters. Main target was to achieve comparable research results for business growth preconditions, therefore majority of questions had predefined options that followed 5-point Likert scale to ensure differentiation of clusters and proper cross-sectional research analyzation methods.
Research limitations / implications – The trustworthiness of the respondents estimations was impossible to ensure. Suggestion for further research is that the financial statements of sports organizations would be handled as primary data and not by secondary data built from estimations of the respondents.
Findings - Results emphasized that preconditions for financial business growth were tough to observe and render. Several survey questions requested for respondents estimations and opinions about their sports organizations features and was not derived from balance sheet numbers. The survey achieved outcomes mainly from the attitudes towards financial business growth. Large part of local sports organizations was functioning as a common-good organization. Results indicated that the main focus for most of the sports organizations was determined as increase of the number of members annually. The preconditions for financial business growth such as annual increase in the income flow or in the revenue flow was targeted only by few of the sports organizations.
Originality/value – This survey is locally the first study concerning the preconditions for business growth. Results can be transformed into precious database if the development of sports organizations are studied further in the future.
