Tiivistelmä
House crickets or Acheta Domesticus are deemed to have the potential to become the future of the food industry. The purpose of this research was to identify and compare traditional and modern methods of cricket farming. Additionally, the objective was also to understand the role of customer experiences in business model optimization for modern cricket farming technology provider from Finland (EntoCube). To achieve this, an online customer survey was conducted which was then analysed using the Kano model. Furthermore, the business canvas model was used to map the existing business model of the case company and the gaps that needed to be filled to cater to the customer requirements expressed through the survey.
From the research, it was revealed that EntoCube’s customers using the 10X system for cricket farming faced various challenges and offered multiple improvement ideas. Moreover, it was also observed through the business model canvas of EntoCube that they were facing challenges and inadequacies to address all the requirements at once. It was noted that Kano model provide an efficient and effective tool for EntoCube to prioritize their efforts in improving their business model and optimize their 10X system.
Based on the research, it was concluded that there are few emerging modern cricket farming methods offered globally in addition to the existing traditional method of cricket farming. Traditional method of cricket farming relied on manual processes unlike the modern next generation cricket farming methods that used automation and technology more in their offerings. However, modern cricket farming suppliers like EntoCube needed to reinvent their business model and collaborate closer to their customers to meet their customer requirements and sustain in their own business. Future researchers can work in developing such collaborative business models.
