Tiivistelmä
Nowadays, many people choose entrepreneurship for different reasons. It seems like an easy escape from the normal working schedule. However, it is far from being an easy solution. There are many unseen obstacles with which they have to cope, not just before the establishment but after it as well.
The theoretical framework is designed to improve understanding of the research topic, including introducing the entrepreneurial situation not only in Finland but in Europe as well. However, the situation of entrepreneurs differs from country to country. This thesis tends to show the situation of entrepreneurs in Finland, especially in the capital region. Further more, it concentrates more precisely on the immigrant entrepreneurship situation.
The study shows which sectors are the most popular among immigrant entrepreneurs and what their motivation is to start their entrepreneurial journey in the capital region of Finland. Moreover, it investigates the obstacles that they had to face during their journey.
The author used questionnaires as a quantitative research method to find out more about the immigrant entrepreneur's challenges and situation. The questionnaire was conducted in May 2022. Thirty immigrant entrepreneurs were participating in the research. Other sources of information for the study were collected from secondary data, including websites, previous research, articles, books, and other printed documents.
According to the research, the three most significant issues that immigrant entrepreneurs face are language barriers, a lack of financial support, and insufficient networking opportunities. The author made recommendations based on the research findings on how these issues could be minimized, making Finland more appealing for immigrants to start entrepreneurial activities.
