This thesis is written after a summer working in a warehouse of the commissioning company. This internship-title was quality inspector of incoming fruits and vegetables, and it inspired a large part of this thesis. There are a lot of trends in the retail and supermarket business, as well as other fields, such as circular economy, and in this particular case, food waste. Observation was a crucial part that helped this thesis as well as personal learning.
The aim of this thesis is to map and provide suggestions to the commissioning company. These suggestions are related to food waste, circular economy and over all warehousing management for fresh fruits and vegetables. The research, that is the base of the authors suggestions, is done by combining theoretical research on multiple aspects and matters and conducting an interview with a personal contact in the commissioning company.
The outcome of this thesis is a well-constructed theoretical framework and useful suggestions for the commissioning company to use as wished. Food waste and good warehouse management are vital in today’s world, especially with such delicate food groups as fresh fruits and vegetables.
