The thesis aimed to map the whole process of sending a balikbayan box from Finland to the Philippines, from availing the service to the delivery of boxes to the end customer in the Philippines. It also aimed to analyze if the business idea would be profitable. This thesis was done for Company X, as they plan to expand their business into the logistics field.
The thesis is divided into three categories: entrepreneurship, supply chain, and financial management. The Entreneruship section was written to get an idea of the business's current market and analyze the business idea and its risks. The supply chain is the main focus of this thesis. Thorough research was done to map the whole process, which would help company X to learn how this export service works—starting from sourcing the boxes to delivering the boxes to the doors of the homes of clients in the Philippines. Lastly, the financial sector was also analyzed. The costs were listed to overview the business's operating expenses and analyze the profitability.
A business model canvas and competitor analysis were made through research and discussions. The same method also helped in creating a process map. After analyzing the costs, the business idea is found to be profitable, having shipped a certain amount of boxes inside the cargo.
As a result, it is deemed that the business idea is profitable for Company X. The owner's network of Company X could be a big help in gaining customers. The business idea is viable and possible.
