This thesis is about healthcare professionals working with children who are being exposed to abuse in their homes. The thesis is performed as a scoping review with the aim to chart what is described in the current literature regarding healthcare professionals´ identification, intervention and prevention regarding abuse against children aged 7 – 12 years old in their homes within a Finnish perspective. The research questions are: ´´What is described in existing literature about healthcare professionals´ identification, intervention and prevention regarding children who are being abused at home?´´ and ´´ How is the collaboration with other professional partners work described when it comes to intervene in situations where one has suspected or identified that a child is being abused in their home´´. The data material consists of ten scientific articles and eleven grey literature documents. Katharine Kolcaba´s theory of comfort was used as the theoretical framework.
The result from the thesis is divided into four themes: Identification of violence, Intervention in violence, Prevention of violence and Multi-professional collaboration. Each theme is divided into two or more categories. The themes describe how healthcare professional are able to, should and have acted when identification, intervention and prevention of violence against children in their home and how the multi-professional cooperation should be organized and previous experiences of cooperation.
The conclusion of the thesis shows that knowledge and practical skills regarding identification, intervention and prevention and multi-professional collaboration in the event of child abuse are necessary among healthcare professionals for early action. There is a need for comprehensive education among everyone in the healthcare system who meets children in their work. The thesis provides an insight into the subject, but results show that further research is needed in this field.
