Tiivistelmä
This thesis studies the impact communication can have in supporting employee motivation. Motivation is a relevant topic for individuals as well as organizations to help keep employees satisfied and engaged in their work. Communication is seen as a big part of motivation due to its involvement and necessity in many areas and aspects in an organization connected to satisfaction and belonging. In that context, the literature review focuses on presenting literature and research related to communication. It discusses the ways it works between individuals and how the exchange of communication can potentially impact motivation. The empirical research is conducted through a qualitative method, where six expert interviews are held to gather data from professionals within the area of Human Resources. They give a deeper understanding and insight into the area and provide a perspective to the topic. Based on the literature in the area of communication and the findings in the empirical data, the study shows that there is a distinct interconnection between the quality of the overall communication at a workplace and employee motivation. Four topics related to communication and motivation are distinguished and involve delivering information, human relations, communication flow and organizational culture. It is argued that by adapting communication in a workplace or specifically looking to improving the quality of one’s communication, one can positively influence and support employee motivation.
