Tiivistelmä
Motoriset haasteet ovat nyky-yhteiskunnassa lapsilla hyvin yleisiä. Tutkimusnäyttö puoltaa varhaisen tuen aloittamista, sillä näin voidaan ehkäistä myös muita haasteita, joita heikkoon motoriikkaan monesti liittyy. Motoriikan tukeminen on niin yksilön terveyden kannalta kuin kansanterveydellisestä näkökulmastakin katsottuna tärkeää, sillä motoriset haasteet vaikuttavat lapsen kokonaiskehitykseen, hyvinvointiin ja tulevaisuuteen. Tutkimusten mukaan lasten tulisi 6–9 vuoden iässä harjoitella motorisia perustaitoja sekä havaintomotorisia taitoja, joiden pohjalle myöhemmät taidot rakentuvat.
Opinnäytetyön tehtävä oli tuottaa lasten motoriikkaa tukeva helppolukuinen opas Joensuun kaupungin alakouluille. Opinnäytetyön tavoite oli lisätä alakoulun 1.–2. luokan opettajien tietoa lasten motoriikan tukemisesta teorian ja harjoitteiden muodossa. Oppaan harjoitteet tukevat kokonaisvaltaisesti lasten motoriikan eri osa-alueita.
Motor problems are very common in children and research evidence is in favour of initiating support in early childhood. Supporting motor skills is important both for the health of an individual and for public health as difficulties in motor skills affect the child’s overall development. According to research, children aged six to nine should practise basic motor skills and perceptual motor skills on the basis of which they will later learn to develop more complicated movements.
The purpose of this thesis was to devise a simple guide that can be distributed to lower comprehensive schools in the municipality of Joensuu. The aim of this thesis was to increase teachers’ knowledge of how to support motor development in children. The guide includes theory and exercises. In addition to written instructions, there are pictures and videos of children performing the exercises.
The thesis was practise-based and the observation of the children was performed during a practical training at one lower comprehensive school. The observations revealed that children who were motorically gifted and/or had actively practised their motor skills performed the exercises better than those who had difficulties in motor development and/or who had been physically less active. The findings are consistent with theoretical knowledge. The thesis included a literature review, working with children, designing the guide, and critical reflection on the process. Ideas for further development could be to study the usability of the exercises in practice and to explore their effects on children’s motor development in the longer term.
