Utbildningsturism : ERASMUS-studerande som turister i Åbo

Abstract

Utbildningsturism är en ofta förbisedd växande gren inom turismen. Eftersom utbildningsturister ofta inte ses som turister har lite forskning ur turismperspektiv tidigare gjorts. Detta examensarbete undersöker ifall utbytesstuderande kunde vara en betydelsefull grupp för turismen i Åbo. Examensarbetet kartlägger ERASMUS-studerandes aktivitet som turister i Åbo; vad de gör och vad de spenderar pengar på. Även utbytesstuderandes potentiella gäster redogörs för. Examensarbetet, som utförts våren 2013, visar också vilken image Åbo har för utbytesstuderande och vad de tycker är bra samt vad de tycker kunde förbättras i staden. Teori som stöder undersökningen är främst tidigare forskning gällande utbildnings- och ungdomsturism. Undersökningsmetoden är en kvantitativ enkät med förkodade och öppna frågor där de öppna frågorna har behandlats som en kvalitativ del av undersökningen. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att utbytesstuderande kan fungera som en viktig del av turismen i Åbo genom att själv vara turister, locka besökare samt rekommendera staden till andra. Detta tyder på att utbytesstuderande är en förbisedd målgrupp som med fördel kunde beaktas mera.

Educational tourism is an often overlooked, growing branch of tourism. Due to the fact that educational tourists often are not regarded as tourists, little research has been conducted from a tourism point-of-view. This thesis researches if exchange students could be an important group regarding the tourism in Turku. The thesis maps the tourist activities of ERASMUS-exchange students in Turku; what they do and what they spend money on. The potential visitors the exchange students receive are also accounted for. The thesis, conducted in the spring of 2013, will also show what image the exchange students have of Turku, and what they think is good, as well as what they believe could be better, in the city. The research has been conducted on the basis of earlier research on youth and educational tourism and the method of research is a quantitative survey with pre-coded and open questions. The open questions have been treated as a qualitative part of the study. The results show that exchange students can function as an important part of the tourism in Turku by being tourists, attracting visitors and recommending the city to others. This implies that exchange students are an overlooked target group that should be taken into consideration.
