The objective of this thesis was to create and develop a service offering to enhance occupational well-being for companies, communities and other organizations. The research question that this thesis seeks to answer is: what kind of movement and body awareness based service offering can support and enhance occupational well-being?
The service offering was piloted as part of this thesis. The pilot consisted of five 60-minute-long sessions in addition to exercises to be completed at home. Two different groups of participants from two different organizations took part in the pilot. Due to the covid pandemic the pilot was carried out remotely. A feedback questionnaire was used to assess if the participants’ well-being had improved as a result of taking part in the pilot.
The core concepts and practices related to the service offering are discussed in this thesis. The service offering is based on movement and the participants’ bodily awareness and experience of movement. This thesis describes the planning and conducting of the pilot-workshops. The results of the workshop sessions and the feedback questionnaire are analyzed in relation to theory and the author’s own perceptions of the workshops.
Based on theory of movement-based practices and the results of the pilot, it can be concluded that occupational well-being can be improved by activities focused on body awareness and improvised movement. The participants felt that taking part in the pilot had improved their state of mind, decreased stress and had helped them to let go of work-related thoughts. The participants also felt that cohesion within the group had improved and bodily tensions had decreased.
