Tiivistelmä
Työ toteutettiin Sance-Sandelin Consulting and Engineering Oy:n toimeksiannosta 3D-tulostamisen kehitystyön yhteydessä.
Vertailu toteutettiin prosentuaalisesti, jossa tulostettavan tuotteen ominaisuudet esitettiin prosenttiosuuksina vertailutuotteen ominaisuuksista.
Tulostamisen kustannukset laskettiin tulostuspalvelutarjoajalta saadun tarjouksen perusteella, jossa kokonaissumma jaettiin materiaalitilavuuden mukaisesti. The work was commissioned by Sance-Sandelin Consulting and Engineering Oy and it was made in connection with the development project of 3D printing. The goal was to study the suitability of 3D printing for the maritime industry and to gather a knowledge base on printing, printing techniques, modeling, and printable materials.
The suitability was determined by comparing the prices of printing, the materials used and other properties with existing products made by other methods. The comparison was made on a percentage basis where the characteristics of the product to be printed were expressed as a percentage of the characteristics of the reference product. The reference products were selected based on the product choices chosen by the architect for the ship. The chosen products were in different locations, material conditions and size classes differed from each other. Front tiling of the large bar counter in the outdoor area was the first of the selected products and the other one was the sink located in the sanitary facilities inside the ship. Printing the front tile of the bar counter required dividing the entire tiling into 29 smaller sections. On the other hand, the sink could be designed and printed as a complete piece making it more cost-effective than printing in series.
The cost of printing was calculated based on the offer received from printing company and the total amount was divided according to the volume of material. As a result, printing costs increased substantially the larger the item was and how many print times were required to print the entire item.
