The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of behavioral training, as a treatment method for urinary incontinence for future inclusion in the osteopathic practice. Behavioral training offers additional tools for osteopathic practitioners to offer patients suffering from urinary incontinence dysfunction. Simultaneously, patient are offered an opportunity of increased self-control of anatomical structures and relief the burden of symptoms. The primary focus is on the two most common diagnoses of urinary incontinence, urge and stress incontinence. The literature review is based on literature searches from four scientific databases containing behavioral treatment for urinary incontinence. This study is both qualitative and quantitative based, as the study examines the application and the effect of behavioral training as a treatment method for urinary incontinence. Included articles of this study showed high statistical significance. The conclusions showed that behavioral training can reduce urinary incontinence up to 80 %. The results of the research also indicated that behavioral training alone, gave a higher reduction of urinary incontinence compared to behavioral training with additional treatment methods and drug treatment. Behavioral training has shown extensive results of reduction of urinary incontinence, while at the same time shown no indicated of side effects from the treatment.
