Obesity is a multifactorial health condition which involves the genetic and environmental factors. The risk factors contributing to obesity can be hereditary, lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating, high stress, inappropriate lifestyle, and lack of adequate sleep. There are certain indicators of obesity, which include body mass index, waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio, and waist-hip ratio. This study aimed to describe and present an overview of different interventions to promote healthy living among obese adults in a health care setting. The research questions include what are the measures to promote health among obese adults and how can nurses help obese adults’ patients prevent relapse. 10 scientific articles were used for this thesis review.
The result of the study showed that health promotion measures include dietary advice and physical activity. Referral of patients for nutritional counselling and promotion of healthy lifestyle practices are the nurses’ role in preventing relapse among obese adult patient. The findings show that there is an awareness of health promotion measures, such as appropriate nutrition intake, behavioral change, weight management practices and dieting and non-dieting approaches among obese adults. The nurses agreed that a combination of physical activity and dietary management will facilitate health promotion and aid in preventing relapse.
Dietary counselling and behavioral modification can be promoted through various means, such as motivational interviewing, education, campaign, and therapies. Periodical follow-ups, assessments and long-term support will help individuals to incorporate healthy behavior among individuals.
