Intervjuerna utfördes under våren 2021.
The aim of this qualitative interview study was to highlight the experiences women with involuntary childlessness go through. The study also examined how women have been affected by involuntary childlessness and how they experienced support during the process.
The study was performed using semi-structured interviews to collect data and the content from the interviews followed the analysis process for a qualitative content analysis. The informants consisted of six women in the age of 23-40, all of whom have one or more children today. The interviews were conducted during spring 2021. Eriksson’s, (1994) theory of suffering was chosen as the theoretical starting point in this study.
The results showed that involuntary infertility affects the mental health. The central findings in the results touched women’s feelings such as frustration, envy, hopelessness, and loneliness. All participants have on or more children today. They were all grateful that they had the strength to fight for the dream to become mothers. The emotional support is necessary to process and handle the situation in the best way.
