What Matters, as a project, aimed to create a customized collection based upon the opinions of youngsters at the age of 7 to 15. The group was divided into two age brackets, ages 7 to 11 and 12 to 15. This process was necessary to allow a better understanding of the needs of each age group. The requirement for a specialized design sprung out of cooperation with the firm Ecolife, as its owner had plans to produce clothing for youngsters. The design aimed to reflect the matters of the youth and thereby create meaningful patterns that intended to be worn for a long time. This would in other words be considered as a good sustainable choice.
The customer group was presented with new pattern idéas alongside results from the market research, which considéred existing patterns. Eight favorites were chosen from these. The survey on ”consuming habits of youth” within the age brackets thrived in finding answers on the matter of facts for this group. Most of the results of the survey were mainly meant to play a part in the potential future product planning, though at the same time giving a positive insight into the mindset of the customers. Especially the section presenting colors was used as a source of knowledge in the patterns of this project.
The final amount of patterns ended on seven unique creations based on the themes. They were designed individually and included two or three color variations per theme. Results are presented in the thesis. The collection and collected information is set to serve the new production positively in the future, having been fed a unique inside look into ”What matters” for the youth in today's world.
